It's cruel to be told to the face

That is what I call "clairvoyant". How does it know?

I was so slow to the whole You Tube things. If it was not my boss who forced me to make an account (to find out if there is any unauthorised use of music, phew), i won't own one, and of course now i have to hide myself from all the colleagues.

"to find out if there is any unauthorised use of music" is this your client's request / case ? midi file 算唔算 ?

No, it's just my boss' request, i work in the society which deals with music copyright. I sometimes feel like jekyll and hype, very schizo, ... i can't say much cos' i may get fired.
midi file? yes, it is under copyright protection, only the music more than 50 years after the death of author is copyright-free.

just curious, if the author died more than 50 yrs, can the copy-right be bought by others so that makes it still under the protection ?

Copyright for a musical work lasts for 50 years after the death of the author, after that period the musical work shall be in the public domain and other people cannot buy any exclusive right of such work. But i'm talking about music and lyrics, cos a track probably have copyright of music, lyrics and sound recording. In respect of sound recording, the copyright in the hand of record label and lasts for 50 years after production. Copyright in music is very complicated (cos' there are too many interesting parties) and that's why there're many proceedings and dispute in it.

Sorry, 太多問題, 因為我一直都攪唔清那方面。

wow, my blog becomes so boring by explaining too much copyright >_< Music & lyrics are the primary copyright of a work while master recording, as a sound product of such music & lyrics, is the secondary copyright. Very often, performing right of music & lyrics remains exclusively to the authors and their societies while other rights such as adoptation, right to copy ... is in the hand of publishers (well i think you are lost here & dunno what i'm saying..) anyway, the performing right in beatles song is still in Lennon/Mccartney, right to copy, adaptation is in their publisher EMI Publishing, so if you want to use the lyrics of beatles with new music, your have to get the licence of adaptation from EMI, if you use it without licence, yes, that's an infringement. About that buy-out of beatles songs by MJ, i dunno what he had bought (cos i haven't seen his contract, haha, what a good pretext for my ignorance!) I suppose he had bought the sound recording from Apple (record label of beatles)

"You have no friends" - yes I get this message from youtube also. It's an important message because it's clairvoyant and it means that we need to spend less time living in the internet - I'm don't mean kitty personally, I mean everyone! How many of us are blogg-ing, webb-ing, macromedia-ing, email-ing, program-ing, decompil-ing, ...

Now is the time to find some new hobby or activity outside of cyberspace.

you are quite right here netview1, but i'm also quite happy to lead a reclusive or cranky life, for my aspiration for emily dickinson and schopenhauer ;p
